Richard "Dick" Barnes: 1943-2024

Posted

Richard "Dick" Tremayne Barnes was born February 14, 1943, in Glendale, California, and passed July 10, 2024, in Olympia. He is preceded in death by siblings Margaret P. Barnes (2024, of Shoreline), Robert P. Barnes (2016, of Boise, Idaho), and parents Hartford and Esther Barnes (of Edmonds).

He is survived by his loving nieces, Caroline (David) Morris; grandnieces Avery and Izzy; and grandnephews Will and Asher of Edmond, Oklahoma; Rachel (Matt) DeFrees; grandnieces Anna and Emma and grandnephew Micah of Parker, Colorado, and his sister-in-law Jean Barnes of Parker.

Dick was a cowboy at heart and loved horses, cowboys, and classic westerns (especially those starring John Wayne). He proudly wore his cowboy hat and boots, resembling his hero. Dick enjoyed a good meal and was always eager for a trip to IHOP to get chocolate-chip pancakes and bottomless coffee. He had a passion for hot sauce and was quite creative with what needed a little hit of heat.

Dick enjoyed getting phone calls from family members, but usually limited his communications to short and concise statements. He ended every phone call with “I love you” and “I miss you.” He prided himself on staying physically active and healthy.

Dick had a childlike sincerity and innocence that will be deeply missed.
