Dorothy Ann ("Dotty") Matysik passed in her sleep on December 2, 2024. She was many things to many people: daughter (to Clarence and Frances Alfredson), sister (to Janie Rose), wife (to Walt Matysik, 1934-2011), mother (to Mike Matysik, Sheri Henrikson, and Tracie Matysik), and grandmother (or “Hammie,” to Matt and Bret Matysik and Kaleigh and Nick O’Brien).
Community members will remember Dotty as a golfer, avid bridge player, or Seahawks enthusiast, while local business people will think of her as a reliable bookkeeper. Many from Edmonds will recall her service to and leadership of the Edmonds Welcomers, while those from Christ Lutheran Church will remember her days as Sunday schoolteacher and bible group leader.
All will remember Dotty as a loving spirit and as a person curious about life. She loved to figure out how machines and bodies worked, keeping encyclopedias close by in the days before the internet. Her curiosity and can-do attitude kept her motivated and happy.
Towards the end of life, when she knew she would soon depart from this earth, she told her son that she was excited to find out what happens when we die. That spirit served her – and those around her – well.
The family will hold a private funeral on December 20, 2024, in Raymond, Washington. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to Smile Train, an organization that fixes cleft lips and palates. Dotty liked this organization, firmly believing all should be able to smile.
