Carol Hardan: 1932-2024

Posted

Carol Hardan (“Bonnie” and/or “Kit” to many of her family, friends, and former coworkers) died peacefully on Tuesday morning July 2, 2024, in the care of her youngest daughter, Terri.

Bonnie Hardan (née Smith) was born in Seattle on August 6, 1932. She was raised in Edmonds and attended Edmonds Elementary, Junior, and Senior High.  She left high school early to get married and have two children before she was 18. Despite the challenges of raising two children, she eventually got her GED and then went to accounting school.

By this time, she had met and married the love of her life, her second husband, Frank Hardan, who supported and encouraged her throughout her accounting career. It was also at this time that she had her third and last child, Terri.

Bonnie eventually joined a prestigious Seattle CPA company, and after several years of service and growing acclaim, decided to form her own CPA firm, which she owned and operated until her retirement. She was such a successful CPA that then-Governor John Spellman cited her as one of the top CPAs in Washington state. She was, of course, an incredible asset at tax time for far too many of her friends and family!

Bonnie loved a good laugh, chess, card games, theater, car racing, and travel. One of her memory makers was water skiing from Edmonds Beach to Whidbey Island! She could be seen on sunny days driving the streets of Edmonds in her classic 1965 Mercedes Benz convertible (license plate “Act III”).

She even elected to drive it in the Edmonds 4th of July parade one year. During her later years, she enjoyed several long international trips with her cousin Sylvia-Lou. If ever there was a pair designed for fun and mischief, it was Bonnie and Sylvia-Lou.

Bonnie’s last years were spent enjoying the garden, fruit trees, and blueberries at her house on Maple Street. Her intelligence, poise, wit, style, and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is truly a legend in her hometown of 91 years, Edmonds.

She is survived by her three children: David Hutchinson, Nikki Loss, and Terri Hardan, along with her brother Mike Shaw and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

We all hope you’re enjoying Act IV, Bonnie.
