Devin Hermanson: 1 of 7 running against Rick Larsen

Nonprofit consultant, entrepreneur, and activist Devin Hermanson is among seven who have filed to compete against incumbent Rep. Rick Larsen in Washington’s 2^nd Congressional District.

 

The Democrat held his campaign kickoff May 5 at Café Louvre in Edmonds. He currently lives in Seattle but plans to move to Edmonds.

 

In a news release supplied by his campaign manager, Heidi Marsh of Mukilteo, Hermanson said he will leverage decades of experience in public service and entrepreneurship to “take on big money in politics, preserve democracy, and deliver a historic level of investment in people over corporations.”

 

“We need more fight from Democrats and less corporate cash in their pockets if we’re going to save our democracy,” he said. “My opponent in this race is almost exclusively funded – and has been for over two
decades – by the wealthy and corporations like Exxon. When the time comes to force those same big donors to pay  their fair share of taxes, reversing decades of GOP tax breaks, who do you want casting that historic vote so we can finally invest in the rest of America?”

 

The heart of Hermanson’s campaign is what he calls “The Case for Hope,” which he thinks many voters need after years of increasingly dysfunctional government, according to the release.

 

“(It) spells out why this is both the fight of our lives and the opportunity of our lifetimes,” he said. “This election may be our last best chance to not just avoid dictatorship, but to finally break free of GOP obstruction and unchain the awesome potential of America.”

 

Hermanson, 58, said The Case for Hope is a two-year plan that includes legislation around the issues “causing despair in America, such as gerrymandering, access to women’s health care, tax reform, court reform, and more.”

 

“The GOP has been plundering our country for so long in service to their wealthy donors that many can’t imagine an America that invests in people first. I’m asking voters to imagine it. And together, we will fight for it.”

 

A self-described humanitarian, Hermanson has worked with some of the largest nonprofits in the world, including World Vision, where he focused on gender equity, leading efforts that raised over $1 billion to fight poverty and injustice around the world.

 

Hermanson’s nonprofit experience combines with business skills gained with several startups, including a company he helped guide from startup to public company. “Because I think like an entrepreneur and understand
both business and the public sector, I will bring a unique voice to the progressive caucus,” he said.
